Memorial Day: Honor those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces

In 2003, Secretary of State Colin Powell was asked a somewhat long and involved question by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, which ended with the following interrogative:

“And would you not agree, as a very significant political figure in the United States, Colin, that America, at the present time, is in danger of relying too much upon the hard power and not enough upon building the trust from which the soft values, which of course all of our family life that actually at the bottom, when the bottom line is reached, is what makes human life valuable?”

In response to the former Archbishop’s question, Secretary Powell said this:

“There is nothing in American experience or in American political life or in our culture that suggests we want to use hard power. But what we have found over the decades is that unless you do have hard power — and here I think you’re referring to military power — then sometimes you are faced with situations that you can’t deal with.

It was not soft power that freed Europe. It was hard power. And what followed immediately after hard power? Did the United States ask for dominion over a single nation in Europe? No.

Soft power came in the Marshall Plan. Soft power came with American GIs who put their weapons down once the war was over and helped all those nations rebuild. We did the same thing in Japan.

So our record of living our values and letting our values be an inspiration to others I think is clear. And I don’t think I have anything to be ashamed of or apologize for with respect to what America has done for the world.

We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last hundred years ….and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in.”

President Trump: ‘I have a chance to break the deep state’

President Trump says he is making inroads in taming Washington’s permanent bureaucracy, which he likes to call the “deep state.”

‘It’s a vicious group of people. It’s very bad for our country."

President Trump at a May 22 news conference
May 23, 2020 – 4:55pm

“What am I doing? I’m fighting the deep state,” Trump said in an exclusive interview with Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson. “I’m fighting the swamp…If it keeps going the way it’s going, I have a chance to break the deep state. It’s a vicious group of people. It’s very bad for our country.”

In the wide-ranging interview with Full Measure set to air Sunday, Trump also addressed the debate over whether religious services should remain closed. Calling them “essential services,” he says it’s time for them to open.

Sharyl Attkisson: There are churches and religious leaders, New Jersey, Chicago, California who have said they’re going to defy if necessary, state orders and they’re going to open back up. Should they do that?

President Trump: I think they’re going to be in great shape. We’re coming out with CDC probably today. In fact, right after this particular magnificent interview that you’re doing… I’m going to be reading an order from CDC, but we’re going to be requesting that they open. I think they’re going to be calling it an essential service, and it is an essential service, and we want to get our churches back open…When you look at some of the things that they consider an essential service, but they don’t consider religious freedom essential service. Now the ministers, the pastors, the rabbis, the anybody you want to say, the religious leaders, all religious leaders, they want to keep the people safe too. But when you see that they’re arresting people and they’re in parking lots in cars with windows, spas and the people are being arrested, it’s a disgrace. Honestly, it’s a disgrace.”

Shortly after the interview Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new guidelines on how religious institutions can safely reopen. Reopenings are still under the control of individual states.

Also addressed in the interview: the controversy over using the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus prevention or treatment. Trump says he just finished a two week course of of the drug for preventive purposes after two White House staffers were diagnosed with coronavirus. “I’m still here, to the best of my knowledge,” he says.

The president also talked about the strengths and weaknesses of his political opponent in the presidential race, Joe Biden, his own Twitter practices, the new Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, and the scandal over FBI surveillance abuses.

“That was the insurance policy,” Trump tells Attkisson, speaking of the FBI’s targeting of the Trump campaign in 2016 and the transition team in early 2017. “[They thought ‘Clinton is] going to win but just in case she doesn’t, we have an insurance policy.’ And now I beat them on the insurance policy. And now they’re being exposed.”

Agencies In The Media….

Long term CTH readers will not find this surprising, but it’s nice to see it starting to be said/admitted openly:

State Dept. and Defense Dept. embeds primarily operate through CNN.  CIA embeds primarily operate through The Washington Post. FBI embeds primarily work through The New York Times; and Politico carries a blend.  Fox is the controlled opposition.

Researchers who travel the deep weeds of U.S. politics have noted this very predictable pattern has been very visible for well over two decades.

"I still thought there were some fundamental rules of fairness .. I was wrong"

The following exclusive excerpt is from Matthew Whitaker’s new book,Above the Law: The Inside Story of How the Justice Department Tried to Subvert President Trump.

I had been Acting Attorney General for fifteen days ..

.. at the time of that Thanksgiving Day press conference, and I had been presumed guilty—of bias against the Mueller investigation, of being a constitutional “nobody” (since acting cabinet heads don’t require Senate confirmation under the 1998 Federal Vacancies Reform Act), and because I had provided very little legal advice to a company that no longer existed and that later had fallen afoul of the law (for reasons completely unrelated to my advice).

Very quickly, I learned that if you are a political appointee in President Trump’s administration, the media and congressional Democrats, among others, immediately presume you must be guilty of something and will stop at nothing to tear you down.

If you are a “career official,” on the other hand, with no evidence of support for the President, then you are regarded as someone free of malice, a modestly paid civil servant toiling with only the nation’s best intentions at heart. In the press, “career official” is practically a synonym for “innocent,” even, or especially, if that career official is revealed to be part of the “Resistance.”

POTUS is taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure against the virus

Fake Media’s Outrage About Trump & Hydroxychloroquine

"President Trump conferred with his physician, which means he handled his decision to take hydroxychloroquine in the exact right way. That’s it. I mean, honestly, all Trump did was get a prescription for a drug taken safely by millions for decades. End of story.

But if you look at our fake news media today, they continue to behave like the evil sociopaths ... and this sociopathic behavior is all grounded in partisan politics."

Dr. Ivette Lozano joined Laura Ingraham on Monday night after President Trump announced he was taking hydryoxychloroquine as a prophylactic against the coronavirus.

Dr. Lozano has been treating coronavirus patients in Texas and having great success with hydroxychloroquine.  The Texas doctor praised President Trump for his leadership.

Dr. Ivette Lozano:  "I think the people of the United States need to know they have a brilliant President of the United States and that he wants to keep himself safe and healthy so that he can guide us through this pandemic.  He’s done an incredible job.  He is saving thousands and thousands of lives.  And I commend him for coming out publicly and sharing with his people that he is taking this drug, that it is completely safe, and that doctors need to start prescribing it immediately."

Dr. Lozano was born in Havana Cuba and immigrated to the US as a child. She eventually received a BS from SMU and an MD from Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine. Dr. Lozano has been in solo private practice for fifteen years. Lozano Medical Clinic is an Urgent Care Center that evolved from the need to have a simplified model of medical care available for those not fortunate enough to have insurance.

"All I can tell you is so far I seem to be OK"

"Frontline workers, many, many are are taking it .. I happen to be taking it."

The president said he has a prescription for the drug from White House physicians. He also said that he's taking it in combination with zinc.

There are going to be consequences - "China will find out"

  It Begins

The Trump administration hit hard against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with the announcement that a Taiwan chip manufacturer will be building a plant in the United States
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) announced that it will build a new factory in Arizona as part of a $12 billion deal with the U.S. that will “create over 1,600 high-tech professional jobs directly, and thousands of indirect jobs in the semiconductor ecosystem,”
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responded: “The U.S. welcomes TSMC’s intention to invest $12B in the most advanced 5-nanometer semiconductor fabrication foundry in the world. This deal bolsters U.S. national security at a time when China is trying to dominate cutting-edge tech and control critical industries.”

Pompeo Warns China against Interfering with U.S. Reporters in Hong Kong

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday warned China against interfering with the work of American reporters in Hong Kong, following China’s expulsion of several U.S. reporters from the mainland.

“It has recently come to my attention that the Chinese government has threatened to interfere with the work of American journalists in Hong Kong.

These journalists are members of a free press, not propaganda cadres, and their valuable reporting informs Chinese citizens and the world,” Pompeo said in a statement. “Any decision impinging on Hong Kong’s autonomy and freedoms as guaranteed under the Sino-British Joint Declaration and the Basic Law would inevitably impact our assessment of One Country, Two Systems and the status of the territory.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo lit into the Communist Party of China’s state-controlled media outlets that have been attacking him and a variety of American lawmakers and media outlets—and even now U.S. states.

“I think this shows that the Chinese Communist Party understands the risk that they’ve put on top of their own nation. Those attacks demonstrate weakness, not resolve, by the Chinese Communist Party. You and I are both old enough to remember how Communist regimes, how autocracies behave. Once they know they have done things that are wrong, they strike out. They try to blame others. I think that’s what you’re seeing."
In recent days, the Global Times—a Chinese government-controlled propaganda outlet — has intensified attacks (link) on Americans, including the publication of a threat of sanctions against U.S. lawmakers for criticizing China.
The lawmakers singled out include Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Martha McSally (R-AZ), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Josh Hawley (R-MO), as well as Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), and Lance Gooden (R-TX), among others.
Other Chinese Communist Party propaganda, like China Central Television (CCTV), has targeted Breitbart News (link) .. falsely calling this publication home to “racist speech.”
At an April 14th press conference , when asked by a reporter why there are no consequences for China ..
the president replied

" How do you know that there are no consequences?
You're going to find out .. China will find out. "

White House trade and manufacturing policy advisor Peter Navarro appears on Fox News to discuss the administration’s outlook toward China and the intense focus to bring critical manufacturing back to the U.S.

Earlier in the day a visibly angered President Trump told Maria Bartiromo he “doesn’t want to talk to China right now”, and Navarro highlights exactly why.

All administration policy and economic influence is targeted to remove Chinese manufacturing from U.S. supply chain.  President Trump officials openly discussing an intentional U.S. effort to decouple from China is a significant shift.

Michael Waltz: “We are in a Cold War with China”

“This is the most dangerous adversary we have ever faced.”

Congressman Waltz said in a video he tweeted earlier this week:

"Every month, me included as a National Guardsman, we contribute to this 401K-style plan. Well guess what? Billions of dollars from it are going over to Beijing and funding Chinese shipbuilding, plane building and all types of companies. Many of which are close to the Chinese Communist Party, some of which are even on the U.S. sanctions lists."

He added:

"We cannot have the American military who’s out on the frontlines retirement account funding their biggest adversary in the 21st Century. America, we need to wake up.

We are in a Cold War with China, they are certainly in one with us. And we would be no more funding their industry through our retirement than we would the Soviet Union and companies in Russia years ago. We need to think about this differently and this has got to stop."

"The Obama administration Justice Dept. was a disgrace ... but much more than that, it's treason."

READ - “What did Obama and Biden know and when did they know it?”

The corruption of the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA and the State Department for partisan purposes in 2016 and 2017 is unprecedented.

All the more so because law enforcement officials gave misleading information to the FISA court to get warrants to spy on Trump associates. Watergate, by comparison, really was a third-rate burglary with a clumsy cover-up. It almost seems benign next to the Obama administration’s effort to tip the 2016 election to Hillary Clinton, then sabotage Trump with leaks of classified information.

Even in that context, the prosecution of Flynn stands out as an extraordinary breach of law and public trust. Special counsel Robert Mueller charged Flynn with lying to agents despite fundamental flaws in the interview, especially in the deceptive approach. And documents released when Attorney General William Barr pulled the plug on the case show the FBI withheld exculpatory evidence from Flynn’s first lawyers.

As Barr noted, Flynn committed no crime and, additionally, no jury would ever have convicted him given the government’s repeated misconduct.

'It looks like President Obama ordered up phony RussiaGate scandal'

RussiaGate is now a complete dead letter — but ObamaGate is taking its place. Just how far did the then-president go to cripple his successor?

It’s now clear the Obama-Comey FBI and Justice Department never had anything more substantial (Link) than the laughable fiction of the Steele dossier to justify the “counterintelligence” investigation of the Trump campaign.

Q: Does the new evidence show that the counterintelligence case against General Flynn was simply left open to lay a trap for lying?

BARR: Yes. Essentially.

"They are scum. They’re human scum, and I say it a lot. They are human scum."

President Trump reacted to news Thursday that the Justice Department is dropping the case against former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, saying that the Obama administration’s efforts to build a case of Russian collusion against Trump are “unprecedented” and the people behind it are “human scum.”

In 2017, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI. He was accused of lying about his contacts with then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. However, the DOJ concluded on Thursday that his interview was "untethered to, and unjustified by, the FBI's counterintelligence investigation” and "conducted without any legitimate investigative basis."

Trump was told about the DOJ’s decision during an Oval Office meeting with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. “I didn't know that was happening at this moment. I felt it was going to happen just by watching and seeing like everybody else does. He was an innocent man, he is a great gentleman. He was targeted by the Obama administration, and he was targeted in order to try and take down a president, and what they have done is a disgrace, and I hope a big price will be paid,” the president said.

“There’s never been anything like this in the history of our country. What they did, what the Obama administration did is unprecedented. It's never happened, never happened, a thing like this has never happened before in the history of our country, and I hope a lot of people are going to pay a big price, because they are dishonest, crooked people. They are scum. They’re human scum, and I say it a lot. They are human scum."

The president accused the Obama Justice Department of treason.“The Obama administration Justice Department was a disgrace, and they got caught. They got caught, very dishonest people, but much more than that, it's treason."

Waltz: China ‘Existential Threat’ to U.S.

Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) stated that China’s rise is the biggest “existential threat to the United States, to liberty around the world, to a free world order that we’ve ever faced.” And said facing them will be like facing the Soviet Union in the 20th century.

Waltz said, “This is a national security issue, and in fact, I think this will be the national security issue, much like how we had to face the Soviet Union for most of the 20th century. This will be the case for the 21st century. … This is about dealing with what I think is the most existential threat to the United States, to liberty around the world, to a free world order that we’ve ever faced.”

"CCP made the conscious decision to let it get outside of their borders"

Sen. Tom Cotton -   Click on image

“Whatever the origins of this virus — and, right now, I think the best circumstantial evidence points to those labs in Wuhan,” Cotton said. “But whatever the origins of it, it’s clear to me that, once China realized how deadly this virus could be to some people and how contagious this virus was, that they made the conscious decision to let it get outside of their borders. They didn’t stop international air travel. They pressured countries not to impose travel restrictions.

They pressured the WHO to oppose travel restrictions as well, even when they knew, as far back as early December, that this virus was highly contagious and very deadly,” he continued. “So, whatever the origins of this virus may ultimately be, even if it was an accident or a mistake, the Chinese Communist Party is culpable for turning what could have been a local public health challenge in Wuhan into the worst global pandemic in a century.”

China covered up the outbreak in Wuhan. Its national health commission ordered virus samples destroyed on January 3. China 'disappeared' brave Chinese citizens who raised alarms and deployed its propaganda organs to denounce those who politely called for simple transparency.

And that brings us to today -- 120 days on. China is still refusing the share the information we need to keep people safe, such as viral isolates, clinical specimens, ad details about the many COVID 19 patients in Dec. 2019, not to mention patient zero.

ccp Read - Chinese Takeout

In 2018, China declared war on the United States. Few Americans are aware of this, and most who are don’t take it seriously. Donald Trump does—and Beijing knows it.

Removing any doubts about how the Trump administration sees things, Peter Navarro, White House trade advisor, said in an interview on Fox News, “This is a war . . . a war that China started by spawning this virus.”

Left diplomatically vague is what kind of war Navarro means. Everyone had to see this coming. The Chinese government certainly did. They’ve been preparing for it.

If Donald Trump were not the president, and 2020 not a presidential election year, it would be hard to imagine anything else causing the kind of mass hysteria that surrounds COVID-19. For Democrats, this is what it’s come to: A last attempt to drive down support for Trump by doing everything they can to heighten public fear of the coronavirus and extend for as long as possible the resulting economic disruption.

China would like nothing better. In October 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared a 30-year war on the United States. When the war is over in 2049, the 100th anniversary of Communist Party rule, China expects to be victorious economically, politically and, if necessary, militarily.

"Let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds"

President Trump’s Town Hall at the Lincoln Memorial. See the 10 best moments.

  1. 🎬 America leads the world in testing. When the virus struck, President Trump quickly revolutionized our nation’s testing system, clearing regulatory hurdles to get the private sector involved. The United States has now conducted more than 6.5 million tests—far greater than any other country on Earth.
  2. 🎬 We’re safely getting back to work. “We did the right thing,” President Trump says when asked about his aggressive actions to slow the spread of COVID-19. “We saved millions of lives, but now we have to get [our economy] back open, and we have to get it back open safely but as quickly as possible.”
  3. 🎬 The best economy in history will be back! Before Coronavirus, America saw rising wages and its lowest unemployment rate in half a century. “We built the greatest economy in the world,” President Trump said. Once this invisible enemy passes, the American people—with this President’s help—will do it again.
  4. 🎬 Relief is already here. The Trump Administration wasted no time steering $3 trillion into our economy, protecting American workers and businesses with direct deposit checks, forgivable small business loans, and more. “We’re talking 30 million jobs that we’ve saved. Thirty million jobs,” President Trump said.
  5. 🎬 Early, strong action worked. In January, President Trump restricted travel from China and announced a White House Coronavirus Task Force. Democrat leaders called the response “xenophobic.” Facts proved them wrong.
  6. 🎬 China’s propaganda won’t work. This virus started in China, and it should’ve been stopped long before it spread rapidly across the globe. The Chinese Communist government has tried to blame everyone from the U.S. military to our European allies for the pandemic—everyone but themselves.
  7. 🎬 We need products made in America. Past presidents did nothing while American jobs went to China. Coronavirus has exposed the danger of relying on foreign supply chains. “We’re bringing that whole supply chain back. Nobody has to tell me to do it. I’ve been talking about that for years,” President Trump says.
  8. 🎬 Schools should reopen—soon. This fall, American schools and colleges should reopen as planned, the President said. “We have to get our schools back.”
  9. 🎬 America is the “king of ventilators.” Around-the-clock coordination between the federal government and states has produced incredible results.
  10. 🎬 “We have to get our people back to church.” Faith and prayer have helped many Americans during this tough time. “It’s wonderful to watch people over a laptop, but it’s not like being at a church,” President Trump says. “And we have to get our people back to churches, and we’re going to start doing it soon.”

Back To Work - Governor DeSantis visits Halifax Health Medical Center

Gov DeSantis and Jeff Feasel CEO

DAYTONA BEACH — Halifax Health Medical Center and other hospitals statewide will today be allowed to perform elective procedures after a six-week hiatus ordered by Gov. Ron DeSantis, who lifted that with a new order last week.

DeSantis appeared Sunday at a news conference at Halifax Health with hospital officials, who talked about their strategies for keeping the reins on coronavirus as it emerged across the United States. He pointed to CDC recommendations for halting the surgeries in the first place.

“Part of the reason they wanted to do that was to make sure there was enough hospital space, which just from the data I thought that we would have that, but then they were also concerned about a lack of (personal protective equipment) and at that time there was real concern so we ended up doing it.”

DeSantis said his order was necessary to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed in the event of a worse coronavirus outbreak.

“That obviously has succeeded. We have not seen that in Florida, but because all these other things were not happening, a lot of hospitals had to furlough workers,“ he said. ”And so some of the capacity was diminished on the back end. This will allow the system to start running again like it should and obviously it will be good for people's health.“
